Reykjavík
Gallery hop + natural wine
A slow Saturday afternoon for the aesthetically inclined. i8, Hafnarhús, Port 9.
More about this plan
Start at i8 Gallery on Tryggvagata — the flagship contemporary art gallery in town, free to walk into, usually showing something quiet and difficult in a good way. Then walk five minutes to the Reykjavík Art Museum at Hafnarhús — the converted harbour warehouse with the Erró collection and whatever temporary show is on.
By the time you're out it should be early evening. Walk to Port 9 on Veghúsastígur, a natural wine bar with a short, changing menu. Order a skin-contact something and a charcuterie board. The room is small enough that you have to sit close. That's the point.
The plan, stop by stop
- 1
i8 Gallery
Reykjavík's leading contemporary art gallery. Free, quiet, exactly right for a first hour together.
- 2
Hafnarhús (Reykjavík Art Museum)
Converted harbour warehouse housing the Erró collection and rotating exhibitions. The rooftop café is a nice add-on if it's open.
- 3
Wine at Port 9
Tiny natural-wine bar on a side street. Small menu, cheese and charcuterie, short pours of interesting things.
