Reykjavík
FlyOver Iceland + Perlan sunset
The suspended flight-sim ride over glaciers and volcanoes, then golden-hour from the glass dome next door.
More about this plan
FlyOver Iceland is the rare tourist attraction that wins over the jaded. You strap into a suspended row of seats in front of a spherical screen, your feet dangle, and for about twenty minutes you soar over glaciers, waterfalls, volcanoes, and the highlands in what is legitimately an excellent production. Wind, mist, even pine and ocean scents are piped in. Everyone comes out laughing.
It is conveniently located inside Perlan on Öskjuhlíð, so walk straight up to the observation deck afterwards. Time the plan so you land on the rooftop an hour before sunset — the light across the city and over to Esja is the best free view in Reykjavík.
Finish at the Perlan café with an ice cream (yes, even in winter — it is an Icelandic rule). Two attractions, one building, under two hours.
The plan, stop by stop
- 1
FlyOver Iceland
Suspended-seat flight-sim ride over glaciers, volcanoes, and the highlands. Twenty minutes and genuinely memorable.
- 2
Perlan observation deck at golden hour
360° wrap-around deck on top of the dome. Time it for an hour before sunset for the best light.
- 3
Ice cream at Perlan café
Perlan level-four café. Icelandic ice cream, good coffee, the view still doing its thing.
